Especially lovely on polyester fleece and satin, this is a lovely, effective, instant way of patterning synthetics.

You will need:

1tsp transfer dye powder

100mls warm water

 

1) Sprinkle the dye powder onto the water, stir thoroughly and leave for five minutes.

2) Paint the dye onto thinnish paper – photocopy paper works well.

3) Leave the paper to dry thoroughly.

4) Cover the ironing board with a clean cloth.

5) Lay the fabric you wish to print onto the ironing board.

6) Place the dry transfer painted paper (coloured side down) onto the fabric.

7) Lay a piece of greaseproof paper (or Teflon) over the transfer paper.

8) Using a constant pressure – press your iron down on to paper. Keep the iron moving to keep the print even.

9) The colour is now fixed to the fabric and can be washed as normal.

 

Why not try placing feathers or dried leaves between the fabric and the transfer paper to create a photogram or painting patterns onto the paper?
